Junior and Senior High School Students on Summer Language Study in Cebu Visit Our Company

Our Philippine branch (Consolacion City, Cebu) welcomed visiting groups from two schools in Japan as part of their summer English language study programs:

August 2: Joushi Seigakuin Junior & Senior High School (Kita Ward, Tokyo) – 28 students and 2 teachers
August 4: Tokyo University of Agriculture Second Junior & Senior High School – 16 students and 2 teachers
Cebu has become a popular destination for short-term study abroad programs, thanks to its many English schools, the high proficiency of local teachers (with English being the country’s second language), its proximity to Japan, and relatively affordable costs compared to the U.S. or Australia. Both schools kindly included our company visit in their itinerary during their language training in Cebu. We feel honored that they arranged their schedule to visit us, in a city better known for its beautiful beaches.

A Learning Opportunity on Waste Management

The program began with a lecture comparing waste management practices in Japan and the Philippines. Students learned that while most waste in Japan is processed through incineration, the Philippines has no incinerators, and we explained how our company contributes to reducing landfill, lowering CO₂ emissions, and preventing environmental destruction.
This provided the students with an opportunity to think about what happens to the waste they generate—who handles it, where it goes, and how it is treated—while reflecting on the differences between the two countries.

Experiencing the Worksite

Following the lecture, the students toured our plant and experienced:

Standing together on a truck scale to see the weight displayed
Touching and feeling our final product, RDF fluff fuel, to understand its hardness and weight
For volunteers, observing the actual waste segregation line, witnessing the demanding work carried out daily by our Filipino employees
Although the visit lasted only about two hours during their two-week stay in Cebu, we believe it gave the students a meaningful experience and insights into environmental and social issues.

Both schools also introduced the visit on their websites:

Our company actively welcomes visits from junior high, high school, and university students who will lead the future. Several more school visits are already planned, and we hope you will also consider including a visit to our facility in your itinerary when you come to Cebu.
